Children's Classes


Parent & Me

  1. Minimum age: 6 months
  2. Goals: To make children comfortable in the water and to teach basic water safety to both parents and their children
  3. Skills to Master:
    • Blowing bubbles
    • Entering and exiting the pool (with assistance)
    • Floating: On back (with assistance)
    • Hold onto the wall independently
    • Splashing
    • Kicking (with assistance)
    • Big Arms (with assistance)
    • Submerging (with assistance)

Starfish

  1. Plays well in the water-- no crying, follows directions, and safely waits for turn.
  2. Goals: Water safety
  3. Skills to Master:
    • Balloon Faces (holding breath under water)
    • Floating: Belly
    • Crab Walking
    • Rolling from Back to Belly and Belly to Back
    • Kicking: flutter kick (with kickboard)
    • Streamline: Belly
    • Entering and exiting the pool independently
    • Big Arms (beginners freestyle)
  4. *Must be able to travel 10 feet independently for kicking and streamline.

Guppy

  1. Goals: Water safety and an introduction to stroke technique.
  2. Skills to Master:
    • Streamline: Back and Belly
    • Bobbing
    • Open eyes underwater (without goggles)
    • Retrieve objects off the bottom of the pool
    • Kicking: flutter kick and frog kick (with kickboard)
    • Big Arms with rolling from front to back
    • Backstroke
    • Elementary Backstroke (arms only): Monkey/Airplane/Soldier
  3. *Must be able to travel half the length of the pool independently for streamline, big arms, and elementary backstroke.

Clownfish

  1. Goals: Stroke technique.
  2. Skills to Master:
    • Streamline: Back and Belly
    • Retrieve multiple objects off the bottom of the pool
    • Tread Water: 15 seconds
    • Kicking: frog kick and flutter kick (with kickboard)
    • Freestyle: side breathing- consistent and correct rhythm (every 3 strokes)
    • Backstroke
    • Elementary Backstroke (arms and legs): Monkey/Airplane/Soldier
    • Introduction to Breaststroke
  3. *Must be able to travel a full length of the pool independently. Must display proficient technique in flutter kick, streamline, freestyle (with breathing on the side), and backstroke.

Puffer Fish

  1. Goals: Stroke technique.
  2. Skills to Master:
    • Streamline (underwater): Back and Belly
    • Tread Water: 30 seconds
    • Kicking: frog kick, flutter kick, and dolphin kick.
    • Perfect Freestyle
    • Backstroke: Straight-arms, good body rotation, and minimal head movement.
    • Breaststroke: correct rhythm and pull down
    • Introduction to Flip Turns
  3. *Must be able to travel two full lengths of the pool independently. Must display proficient stroke technique for freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

Tunafish

  1. Goals: Advanced stroke technique and stamina.
  2. Skills to Master:
    • Perfect Streamline: above water and underwater
    • Kicking (without kickboard): frog kick, flutter kick, and dolphin kick.
    • Backstroke: more advanced underwater catch
    • Breaststroke: correct rhythm and pull down
    • Introduction to Butterfly
    • Starts for all 4 strokes
    • Turns: Flip turns (freestyle/backstroke) and open turns (breaststroke/butterfly)
  3. *Must be able to travel 4 full lengths of the pool (without stopping) for freestyle and backstroke using proper starts, streamlining, and flip turns. Must be able to travel 2 full lengths of the pool (without stopping) for breaststroke and butterfly using proper starts, streamlining, and open turns.

Jellyfish

  • This is our top-level class at this time. Students may come 1 to 4 times per week. The goal here is to keep kids active in the water using the proper stroke techniques and to give them a workout as well. This class is currently 60 minutes in length and offers half of the lesson swimming and half of the lesson beginner’s water polo. The student must be able to do freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly before entering this class.

Adult Classes


Learn to Swim

  1. Goals:water safety and stroke technique
  2. Skills to master:
    • Floating on front and back
    • Freestyle
    • Backstroke
    • Breaststroke
    • Butterfly
  3. *We talor our adult lessons to each individual. Some of our adult students are just learning to swim for the first time while others are working on stroke refinement.

Triathalon Training

  1. Goals: Buidling Stamina and Stroke Refinement
  2. Skills to master:
    • Refinement of freestyle stroke technique in order to achieve efficiency, and assistance creating pre-traithalon work-outs in order to build stamina.
